LC women's basketball lost their first round ODAC tournament game after winning three in a row.

Both the Lynchburg College women's and men's basketball teams were eliminated from the ODAC Championship Tournament last week with losses to Roanoke College and Guilford College, respectively.

The women were eliminated last Thursday after an 88-64 defeat in their first round matchup with Roanoke, and the men were eliminated by Guilford with a 69-61 loss in the second round.

Roanoke was the top seed in the women's tournament and finished the regular season with a 23-2 record and a 19-1 ODAC record. Win Roanoke knocked LC out of the tournament they ended the team's three-game winning streak. Roanoke took control of the game early and took a 48-27 lead into halftime that proved to be insurmountable for LC despite All-ODAC Honorable Mention senior Tamara Snead's 17 points and eight rebounds for LC. Roanoke junior Kylie Lucas, a former Hornet, had 10 points and three rebounds in the game, according to the LC Athletics website.

The LC men won their first round matchup of the ODAC Tournament 83-78 against Roanoke last Tuesday to earn the second round matchup with Guilford, who entered the ODAC tournament no. 4 in all of Division III and the second seed in the tournament, according to the LC Athletics website.

LC lost a very close game with Guilford 89-82 earlier this year at home on Jan. 6, and last weekend's game was just as close the whole time, as the teams entered halftime tied 36-36. Guilford started the second half on a 7-2 run to build a five point lead; and they were able to stay ahead for the remainder of the game, making free throws down the stretch to hang on for the 69-61 win.

Senior All-ODAC First Team guard Steven Echols led LC in the game with 26 points, five rebounds and seven steals. Guilford was led by ODAC Player of the Year senior center Tyler Sanborn, who posted 17 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in the game, according to the ODAC website.

The LC women's team ends their season with a 7-19 record overall after winning three of the team's last four games. The men's team ends the season with a record of 12-15, an eight game improvement over last year's 4-22 and the first time the team has won double digit games since 2005 when they went 11-15, according to the LC Athletics website.
