The women's lax team has been practicing 6 days a week for over two hours a day in preparation for the 2010 season.

After finishing the 2009 season with a record of 9-8 the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team and Coach Bruce Reid are starting off the 2010 season with a positive attitude.

"We expect to compete for a championship," Reid said. With 12 returning players bringing experience and eight incoming players ready to play, the team and coach have high hopes for the upcoming season.

Sophomore Christina Tran is returning to her position as goalie for the second year in a row, senior Katie Reynolds is a returning starter for defense and senior Emily McMillian is returning as an attacker. Morgan Logue, Patty Sheahan and Lindsay Gengras are returning for their third year, bringing a lot of experience in midfield.

A few incoming freshmen are expected to show up in the lineup as well.

"There are a couple freshmen with strong potential to play their first season," Reid said.

Last season, the team played Roanoke on Saint Patrick's Day, and lost 12-5. This season, they are facing off again on the same day, but they hope for a different outcome. Roanoke went undefeated last season, 8-0, in the ODAC, finishing their season 16-5. Reid expects Roanoke College to be their biggest competition this season.

"Everyone gets fired up to play Roanoke," Reid said.

The team is also playing a few "firsts" this season, including Adrian College, who they will start the season with on Feb. 27, Susquehanna University and the University of Rochester.

Coach Reid wants the ladies to focus on playing with energy, toughness and passion as well as leaving everything on the field every time they play. The team wants to improve defensively and work to be able to hold teams to ten goals or less in games. One on one play and team play on their defensive eight are the two main focuses of the season.

The team maintained a strong fall ball season as well as an outstanding fall academic semester, so the team is very excited for the upcoming season. They have also been working together since August in the weight room and at practice to prepare them as much as possible for what is to come throughout the season.
