The Lynchburg College men's track and field team traveled to Morgantown, WV. for the West Virginia Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 5. It was the team's first indoor meet of the season and against Division I competition.
John Michael Pavia brought home a first place finish in the weight throw event with a toss of 53 feet, the second best in LC history. Pavia was named ODAC Men's Track Athlete of the week, according to the LC Athletics website. Sophomore James Bell finished runner up in both high jump and pole vault.
"I went in to the meet thinking it was going to be hard to compete well, since I am recovering from an injury to my hamstring," Bell said in an e-mail. "But I did what my coach told me and I had a pretty good start to the season."
Junior Rashard Adams ran a 51.54 400-meter dash to finish in second place and finished third in the 4x400 relay alongside teammates Bell, freshman Todd Postie and freshman Thomas Clark, according to the LC Athletics website
LC was picked to finish atop the ODAC this season, as they have won the conference for 11 straight years. LC was picked to finish ahead of Bridgewater for the second straight year as Washington and Lee, Roanoke, Eastern Mennonite and Virginia Wesleyan round out the preseason poll, according to the ODAC website.
"Our teams looks pretty solid, I think we are going to have a good year," Bell said in the e-mail. "I'm glad to be a part of this team and I will do what I have to do to make sure that we keep the reputation that we have in the ODAC."
With only five seniors this season the team not only shows potential to win their 12th consecutive ODAC Championship, but continue that success in the future.
