The Lynchburg College men's cross country team has been picked to repeat as the ODAC champions this year as they were voted number one in the ODAC coaches preseason poll, according to the LC Athletics website. The LC women's cross country team has also been picked to finish near the top as the team was voted number two in the ODAC preseason poll.
The men's team has plenty of talent returning this year, and they will try to defend their ODAC title. Highlighting the team's returning talent is last year's top runner at the ODAC Championships, All-American senior Ricky Flynn. The team also returns senior Pat Jacobs, juniors Brandon Demers and Ryan Van Alstine and sophomore Lawrence Minor-all runners that placed in the top 20 at last year's ODAC Championship.
Flynn said that they have a solid team this year, led by Jacobs and himself, that is very young with a lot of potential.
"We have a solid returning top four from last years ODAC championship team. We hope to repeat as ODAC champs again this year, and look for success at the regional level as well with the hope for a NCAA birth," Flynn said in an e-mail.
The women's cross country team also has high ambitions for this season as they only lost two seniors last year and are returning two of the top five runners from last year's ODAC Championship, senior Ashley Meyer who placed third and junior Jennie Pernisi who placed fifth, according to the LC Athletics website.
Meyer said that she is very excited for this year, as it is her se¬nior season and her last year of competitive running.
"Our team has great potential, especially with the five new freshmen we have inherited. Last year we only lost two seniors, so we are a strong coherent team wih great additions," Meyer said in an e-mail. "I am going to give everything I have left, being this is my last chance to compete at the collegiate level. I love my team and want to do my best for them and keep everyone motivated to continue working hard like we have been ever since the beginning of preseason."
