As covered in an article last week, the men's track and field team captured yet another ODAC title this year and last week LC junior Ricky Flynn traveled to the University of Pennsylvania to compete in the Penn Relays. According to the LC athletics website, Flynn competed in the 10,000-meter run and qualified for the national meet with a time of 30:09.63, a time that broke a 16 year school record of 30:14 set in 1993 by Gregg Caraliere. Flynn currently holds the third fastest 10k time in the nation after finishing fourth last week in a race that featured mostly Division I runners. Flynn, who has already garnered All-American honors twice this year in cross-country and indoor track, has now qualified nationally for both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter events in outdoor track.

Another LC athlete to compete at the national level this spring is freshman rider Kelly Gerland of the equestrian team. Gerland competed in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championship in Murfreesboro, Tenn. last week, a show in which she was named reserve champion, according to the LC athletics website. Gerland was named reserve champion in intermediate fences, coming in two points behind the winner, Ali Cibon, from the University of Kentucky, a Division I school. Gerland's reserve champion finish was the highest finish any LC rider has ever achieved at that level. Gerland said that she is very thankful for both her coaches' and her teammates' support throughout what has been an unbelievable season.

"It has been an unbelievable experience for me to compete in Nationals and break new ground for the equestrian team. We had a great season, full of firsts and I am looking forward to next year for our continued success," Gerland said in an e-mail.

Last but not least, LC's golf team had three members earn All-ODAC honors after the team finished sixth at the ODAC golf championship. According to the LC website, senior Ryan White was named Sportsman of the Year by the conference's coaches and earned first team All-ODAC honors. LC junior Mike Butzgy was named to the All-ODAC second team after a seventh place overall finish in the 40-player ODAC tournament field. LC freshman Conrad Anguera also earned All-ODAC honors as he was named honorable mention to the all-conference team.
