* The fire alarm in McWane Hall was set off when an electrical motor started to smoke at approximately 4:26 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, according to the Lynchburg College Safety and Security log. Security immediately responded and followed protocol with the Lynchburg Rescue Squad arriving shortly after, Vice President and Dean for Student Development John Eccles said. Eccles said no injuries or serious damages occurred.

* Three non-LC students broke into a number of parked cars on Southside and stole items from the vehicles late Friday night on Dec. 5, according to the security log. These perpetrators were arrested by Lynchburg Police and all of the stolen items have been confiscated, Kristen Cooper, director of residence life, said in an e-mail to LC students.

* As of Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 9, LC Campus Safety and Security has issued 115 trespass notices to non-LC students, Bob Driskill, director of campus safety and security, said.

* Over winter break, LC Campus Safety and Security plans to extensively patrol LC, especially campus housing, in an effort to prevent break-ins.

"We will do perimeter checks, door checks and window checks while students are gone and we are going to divide it up between all of us so that houses get checked once a day. If we find anything while patrolling, we respond immediately and have LPD respond if needed. We did this last year and it worked really well so we are going to continue with that," Driskill said.
