Dance Works is preparing to perform the dance ensemble Splashes of Color, which revolves around various songs that have a color in their title. They are performing pieces from Aerosmith's song Pink and Nat King Cole's Orange Colored Sky.

"The Homecoming Weekend production of The Man Who Came to Dinner has now closed and our efforts bend toward the support of our Dance Works ensemble," professor and program coordinator Jeff Wittman said. "They are busy rehearsing in the dance studio in Turner Gym preparing for their show."

The ensemble features a diverse set of dances.

"We are featuring tap, jazz, ballet, modern and partner pieces," senior Sara Richardson said. "It's a diverse group with very diverse dances."

Along with pieces choreographed by director of dance Megan Emanuel there are also a number of student choreographed pieces. Sophomore Mickey McKinstry, juniors Megan Powell and Brittany Cole and seniors Johanna Machate and Richardson are all hard at work choreographing their own unique pieces.

The theatre department as a whole is supporting Dance Works, including scene designer and technical director Terry Jachimiak.

"We will be doing the lighting setup and running all the technical aspects of the show," Jachimiak said. "The dance show requires more students to run crew than most of our other shows due to gel changes, spotlight cues and curtain flying."

Performances are Friday Nov. 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in Dillard Theatre. Performances are free, but seating is limited.
