The haunts of LC

If you didn't get enough of a scare on Halloween, there are two particular places on campus you could check out. It is rumored that LC is haunted by three ghosts. Two live in Dillard's theatre, while the other inhabits house number 333 on College Street.
Dillard was constructed in 1974, making it odd that these two spirits choose to haunt the theatre. Rachel Laslo, a sophomore theatre major, said the two ghosts that live in Dillard are called Will and Lady Dillard.
Laslo said even though some people don't believe that the ghost actually is Lady Dillard, there is no doubt that a ghost does haunt the theatre.
"Lady Dillard lives in the hat shop and has walked out on stage a couple of times during performances. Particularly during the performance of Much Ado about Nothing," Laslo said.
When getting costumes from the hat room, Laslo said it's creepy.
"When you walk in there, it feels like someone is watching you," Laslo said.
The second ghost that inhabits Dillard is rumored to be William Appleby. Will was a theatre major killed in 2001 by a drunk driver. There is a bench placed in his honor between Dillard and Hobbs.
"At the opening of every show we pour two cans of beer out around the bench in remembrance," Laslo said.
Laslo claims that Will lives up on the loading rail, which is the theatre's fly system.
"Will moves things around in the costume shop and changes settings in the control room. Lights also get turned on and off without anyone touching them," Laslo said.
Overall, Laslo believes that the ghosts in the theatre are harmless.
"Will and Lady Dillard are peaceful. They like to mess with us but they mess with us quietly," Laslo said.
Across campus from Dillard, in 333 College St., another ghost is said to live. According to Barbara Thomas, a campus security officer, the ghost that inhabits 333 is named Edna Torrence.
"Edna worked the switchboard here at Lynchburg on Friday and Saturday nights. She lived at 333 with her daughter, son-in-law and their children," Thomas said.

It is a shame that the first time I return to LC since transferring schools in December of 2001, that I picked up a paper and read this article. I was friends with Will. (Continued…)
