After leaving LC last spring, Ronnie LaBrie went on to be drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 38th round.

The Washington Nationals strengthened their connection to Lynchburg College by selecting former LC third baseman Ronnie Labrie in the 38th round of the Major League Baseball draft. Labrie makes history as the first LC player drafted to the major leagues under current Head Coach Percy Abell.

Since agreeing to terms with the Nationals on June 8, 2008, LaBrie has done nothing but shine for their Minor League Rookie affiliate, the Gulf Coast Nationals, finishing in the top five in every important offensive category.

"A lot can change in one year…this has been my dream for a long time, it's amazing waking up knowing I get to play baseball everyday, I am truly blessed," LaBrie said.

LaBrie recently got a chance to take time away from baseball and come back to LC where he spent his time catching up with old friends.

"He is still the same Ronnie to us…it was exciting to hear about his time in Florida," senior Heather Morris said.

Senior and former teammate Jeff Lincoln agreed, adding "[Ronnie] hasn't changed at all."

LaBrie was excited to be back at LC.

"It's important for me to come back. I would never be where I am without my friends, family and coaches," LaBrie said.

He wasted no time fitting back into the college lifestyle.

"It felt like last year, [Ronnie] just walked in our door and sat on the couch," junior and former teammate Keith Yancey said.

LaBrie's professional baseball career will continue. He is already invited back for spring training next year in Viera, Fla.

"I am so eager to go back and hopefully pick up where I left off," LaBrie said.

Understandably so, the Vinton, Va. native has been playing baseball since he was five years old with hopes of someday playing in the Major Leagues.

"I wake up and still think I'm dreaming, and in a way I am," LaBrie said.
